Quality of life and depression in breast cancer patients after surgery in King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.

Abstract

Objectives : To study the quality of life and depression and related factors affecting breast cancer patients after surgery.

Participants : Two hundred and three subjects were recruited from the Outpatient Surgery Clinic, Daycare Clinic and Radiology Clinic of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital during February 2008 to March 2008.

Methods : All subject completed four questionnaires: 1) Demographic questionnaire 2) Quality of life questionnaire (WHO QUALITY OF LIFE BREF THAI, WHO QOL-BREF-THAI), 3) Depression questionnaire (Health - Related - Self - Report, HRSR and social support questionnaire (The Personal Resource Questionnaire, PRO 85 part II) and the data were analyzed by SPSS software for One - Way ANOVA, t-test, Multiple Regression Analysis, factor analysis and set statistically significant at .05 level.

Results : All subjects were breast cancer female patients and the aged average 48.63 years, Almost of subject was operated during 3 to 6 month that stage 2 and their received chemotherapy so they were side effect after operation swelling in the arms and anorexia. The breast cancer patients were in intermediate level and occupation category and side effect after operation could significantly predict quality of life in breast cancer. The majority of breast cancer no depression and related factor เทdepression was joint stiffness could significantly predict quality of life in breast cancer.

Conclusion : The majority of breast cancer patients after surgery had moderate level of quality of life and no depression.
