STUDYING THE NEEDS OF CAREGIVERS FOR BEDRIDDEN PATIENTS AT HOME IN THE AREA OF BAN BANG YA PHRAEK SUBDISTRICT HEALTH PROMOTING HOSPITAL, MUEANG DISTRICT, SAMUT SAKHON PROVINCE

Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to study general information, knowledge level of patient care, caregiver needs, and role performance of caregivers of bedridden patients in the area of Ban Bang Ya Phraek Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province. The sample group in this study was caregivers of bedridden patients in the area. The samples were purposively selected from each village, totaling 29 people. The research instruments were divided into 4 parts: 1) a questionnaire on general information of bedridden caregivers, 2) a questionnaire on knowledge of bedridden patient care, 3) a questionnaire on health care needs of bedridden patients, and 4) a questionnaire on role performance of caregivers in caring for bedridden patients. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
The research results found that the majority of the sample were female (72.41%), aged between 40-49 years (55.17%), with an average age of 47.48 years, and graduated from secondary school (31.03%). The relationship of the caregivers was a child (65.52%), and the duration of patient care was between 1-3 years (65.52%), with an average duration of 3.34 years. The caregivers had a very good level of knowledge about care (58.62%) ( = 16.34, SD. = 1.67). The caregivers' needs were at a moderate level ( = 3.31, SD. = 0.98). When considering each aspect, it was found that information and costs were at a high level ( = 3.77, SD. = 0.74) and ( = 3.72, SD. = 0.84), respectively. As for health care, And the environment and management in the home were at a moderate level ( = 3.28, SD. = 0.93) and ( = 2.60, SD. = 1.10), respectively, and the performance of work roles was at a high level, 65.52 percent ( = 63.69, SD. = 4.34).
Suggestions necessary materials and equipment for caring for bedridden homebound patients should be prepared, and self-care support should be provided, including activities to help patients help themselves, social support to help develop their quality of life, and the development of good care skills for bedridden homebound patients.
