NUTRITIONAL INTERVENTIONS FOR SLEEP ENHANCEMENT TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE SEXUAL HEALTH: AN INTEGRATIVE UROLOGICAL, LIFESTYLE, AND LONGEVITY MEDICINE PERSPECTIVE

Sexual health is a crucial indicator of quality of life and longevity in clinical practice. While sexual dysfunction is often viewed through the lens of localized pathology, from the perspective of Lifestyle Medicine, poor sleep quality is a major risk factor that insidiously undermines the endocrine, neurotransmitter, nervous, and vascular systems. These detrimental effects progress slowly and chronically, often remaining unrecognized until overt symptoms manifest. Furthermore, sexual health serves as an early sentinel event before broader systemic health deteriorates, particularly preceding the onset of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as ischemic heart disease. Therefore, the management of patients presenting with sexual health issues must not conclude with the diagnosis and symptomatic treatment of the sexual dysfunction alone. Rather, it necessitates a targeted approach to identify the root causes and deliver holistic care by integrating multidisciplinary strategies encompassing Urology, Lifestyle Medicine, and Longevity Medicine tailored to each individual patient.
A significant proportion of sexual health problems in both men and women is intricately linked to the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine. This article aims to review the critical role of sleep on the physiological mechanisms of the reproductive system and presents empirical evidence on "Sleep Nutrition." These nutritional interventions can be practically applied as clinical tools to comprehensively restore and sustain sexual health in the long term.
