This quasi-experimental research aimed to compare the average scores of knowledge and self-care ability following one-day cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation in patients and caregivers at Lerdsin Hospital. The experimental group received a video application for home-based learning, while the control group viewed standard video materials on the day of surgery. The sample consisted of 150 patients undergoing one-day cataract surgery, divided equally into experimental and control groups (75 participants each). Data were conducted from October to December 2023 using a postoperative self-care knowledge assessment and a self-care ability questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics; within-group differences were examined with dependent t-tests, and between-group differences with independent t-tests.
The results of the research found that the experimental group had significantly higher knowledge and self-care ability scores compared to the control group (p <.01). These findings indicate that providing information via a video application that allows repeated learning effectively enhances understanding and promotes postoperative self-care among cataract surgery patients.
