A Strengthening of Resilience in Adolescents: Psychiatric Nurse's role

Adolescence is a period characterized by significant physical, mental, emotional, and intellectual changes, along with various pressures such as family expectations, peer relationships, and the influence of online media. Resilience serves as a protective factor and a crucial mechanism that helps mitigate the risk of mental health issues. Therefore, fostering resilience is essential to equip adolescents with the psychological fortitude to effectively cope with problems and mature into well-adjusted adults. This article aims to discuss the importance of resilience in adolescents by explaining relevant concepts and theories. It also highlights the role of psychiatric nurses in building this psychological strength. Psychiatric nurses have a vital role in fostering adolescent resilience through interventions at every level of prevention: from proactive mental health promotion at the primary level to screening and short-term therapy at the secondary level, and rehabilitation and relapse prevention at the tertiary level. This article serves as a guideline for developing effective and sustainable adolescent mental healthcare.
