Use of Pain Relievers in Agricultural Workers with Musculoskeletal Pain: The Role of Occupational Health Nurses
Keywords:
Musculoskeletal pain, Agricultural worker, Pain management, Occupational health nursesAbstract
Musculoskeletal pain in agricultural workers is caused by ergonomic factors resulting from high workloads and inappropriate work postures. This pain impacts quality of life and work efficiency. Medications are more commonly used than non-medical pain management. The most popular pain relievers for agricultural workers are acetaminophen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Most agricultural workers have good drug use behaviors. Herbal remedies are more commonly used in topical form than oral form. However, agricultural workers still rely on pain relief kits and boluses, which are considered hazardous to health, impacting both health, economics, and society, leading to increased treatment and medical equipment costs. Therefore, occupational health nurses play a crucial role in providing knowledge, advice, and promoting health and well-being in agricultural workers. They also emphasize safe non-medical and non-medical pain management, using rational drug use principles.
