A Retrospective Study of Factors Associated with Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease in Uthaithani Hospital

Background: Fatty liver is the common chronic liver disease associated with metabolic syndrome. The incidence and prevalence are increasingly worldwide. In long term, the fatty liver will develop metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma, which is the third leading causes of death from malignancy. For diagnosis, basically and non invasive is abdominal ultrasound.
Objective: This study was determined the factors associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease in Uthaithani hospital.
Methods: This cross sectional study was included 282 patients, who went to have an abdominal ultrasound from inpatient and outpatient departments in Uthaithani hospital (from January 2024 to October 2025) with collected medical records including laboratory findings from HOSxP.
Results: In 282 patients, the results revealed 123 patients had fatty liver (43.6%) and younger than non fatty liver patients. The levels of triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL, AST and ALT in fatty liver patients were higher than non fatty liver patients significantly (p < 0.05). By using multiple logistic regression analysis showed triglyceride >150 mg/dL (adjusted OR = 4.30, 95% CI: 2.09–8.85, p < 0.001) and ALT >40 U/L (adjusted OR = 11.41, 95% CI: 4.87–26.75, p < 0.001) significant correlated with fatty liver.
Conclusion: The high levels of triglyceride and ALT are significant correlation with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. The patients with high metabolic risk factors must have diagnosed fatty liver by using radiologic examination or score-based methods. Accordingly, lifestyle modification, exercise and control comorbidities can be prevented long tern complications in the future.
