Abstract

Early detection of breast cancer through self-breast examination (SBE) is the most effective method in reducing morbidity and mortality rates from breast cancer, which is appropriate and economically feasible in the current era. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a Self-Breast Examination Promotion Program on the practice of SBE among women in the breast cancer risk group in Yuwa Sub-district, San Pa Tong District, Chiang Mai Province. The participants were divided into experimental and control groups, each consisting of 30 individuals, selected using simple random sampling. The experimental group participated in activities utilizing the Health Promotion Model framework, including lectures, video clips, hands-on practice with a breast model, SBE logbooks, and reminder calendars, while the control group received regular activities. Data were collected using a questionnaire with an acceptable reliability coefficient. Statistical analysis included frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The results revealed that after the intervention, the experimental group showed significantly higher mean scores in knowledge, skills, and behaviors related to breast health care compared to before the intervention ($p < 0.001$). When comparing the mean score differences between the experimental and control groups, significant differences were found at the $p < 0.001$ level. The research findings indicate that the Self-Breast Examination Promotion Program developed based on the Health Promotion Model framework effectively increased the correct practice of SBE among the target group. Therefore, it is suitable to be incorporated into future community-based breast cancer
