Developing a model for assessing and promoting early childhood development through community participation

ABSTRACT
Action research study conducted between November 2025 and January 2026. There are three phases: Phase 1 involves surveying the assessment and developmental promotion situation. Informants include 20 individuals: teachers, caregivers, volunteers, and nurses. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Phase 2, model development, consists of four steps: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection and phase 3 involved evaluating the effectiveness of the model through a study of 40 early childhood caregivers. A purposive sampling method was used, employing G*Power with a confidence level of 0.05 and an effect size of 0.80. The tools used were: 1) a knowledge test on assessing and promoting child development, and 2) a questionnaire on practices for promoting early childhood development. Qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis, and pre- and post-implementation comparisons were conducted using a paired t-test.
The study found that 1) there is a need to promote developmental assessment skills and community involvement. 2) Happy 4D activity model includes (1) Happy (2) Diet (3) Development and Play (4) Dental and (5) Disease. 3) The results of using the developed service model showed that knowledge and promotion of early childhood development in the sample group increased significantly (P-value<0.05). In conclusion, the assessment and developmental promotion model for early childhood education, based on the Happy 4D activities, helps children receive age-appropriate developmental support.
