Abstract

This study was quasi-experimental research, one group pretest–posttest design. This study aimed to determine the effect of motivational interviewing on health behaviors and blood pressure in hypertension patients, before and after receiving the motivational interviewing process. The subjects were hypertension patients, 31 people aged between 35-60 years old using sample-specific purposive sampling. Data were collected by using an interview form. Analyzed by descriptive statistics including percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The mean scores of health behavior and the mean blood pressure before and after the experiment were compared using the paired sample t-test. The study showed that the health knowledge and behavior score had the mean scores of knowledge and health behavior were higher than before the experiment. It was statistically significant (p< 0.001). Classified by side, it was found that the health behavior scores were the highest differential (t = 5.24, p<.001) and the lowest differential stress management (t = 1.93, p<.05) and found that the mean systolic blood pressure was 133.20 mmHg. The mean diastolic blood pressure was 78.33 mmHg, which was significantly lower than before the experiment (p< 0.001).
