Abstract

The objective of this classroom research study is to evaluate the effect of research-based learning (RBL) instruction on the course learning outcomes (CLOs) of Research in Public Health subjects and student perspectives on RBL of a cohort of 43 third-year undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in the second semester of the academic year 2021 in the public health program at Sirindhorn College of Public Health, Suphanburi province. The approaches employed for assessing learning cover the RBL program, CLOs measurement, and student's perspective assessment pertaining to RBL instruction. Data were collected before and after teaching and learning activities by the tests and the rubric scoring assessment. The duration of the research period was a total of 2 semesters. Descriptive statistics and a paired t-test were employed to analyze the data.

The results of the study indicated that after implementing RBL instruction, the students' average scores for CLOs on (1) Ethics and Ethics in Public Health Research (CLOs 1–CLOs 2), (2) Knowledge of Public Health Research (CLOs 3), (3) Public Health Research Skills (CLOs 4- CLOs 9), and (4) Traits and Values for Conducting Public Health Research (CLOs 10) were significantly greater than before learning (p < .001). Additionally, the student perspectives on RBL were found to be high level ( = 32.14, SD = 4.021).
