Although the epidemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has decreased, people still die of this disease daily. This retrospective study aimed to determine factors affecting fatality among COVID-19 patients in Khon Kaen province. The subjects were 612 patients with COVID-19 infections who received treatment at a hospital in Khon Kaen province from January 1 to December 15, 2022. They were divided into the study group, with 204 deaths from severe pneumonia due to COVID-19 infection and 408 recovery cases in the control group. The research tool was a data recording form. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, and multiple logistic regression analysis.
Factors affecting fatality with COVID-19 patients statistically significant were: older than 60 years (ORadj 55.23, 95% CI = 28.77–106.05, p-value < 0.001), with underlining diseases such as pulmonary tuberculosis (ORadj 11.80, 95% CI = 2.54–54.73, p-value 0.002), diabetes mellitus (ORadj 9.07, 95% CI = 1.52–54.28, p-value 0.016), hypertension (ORadj 4.29, 95% CI = 1.59–11.60, p-value 0.004), and had not been vaccinated (ORadj 2.00, 95% CI = 1.14 – 3.49, p-value 0.015), respectively.
