Abstract

This descriptive research study was to examine the relationship between behaviors and the impact of using social media among senior high school students, Suphanburi. A total of 369 high school students in the selected school, Suphanburi, were selected by simple random sampling. Data was collected by submitting online questionnaires in Google form application. The data were analyzed with the use of descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficient.

The results showed that the sample was female (68.70%). The average age was 16.78 years (S.D. = 1.025). They used their mobile phones to access social media; the top 3 popular online social media was Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube. Most of them accessed social media every day for more than 3 hours. They had the most entertainment behaviors on social media. The effects of positive social media use included relaxation, stress reduction, and help finding academic resources. Whereas its negative effects included eye strain, eye cylinder pain, muscle aches in the neck and shoulder, wrist pain, and locking fingers after prolonged use. The relationship between behaviors and the effects of using social media was statistically significance correlated to social media use (r = 0.764, p < 0.01).
