EFFECT OF FAMILY SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATED ON NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS IN SCHIZOPHRENIA PATIENTS

This action research was aimed to evaluated a promotion of family support and community participation among schizophrenic’s patients at Yang Si Surat District, Mahasarakham Province. The targets group consisted of 12 schizophrenics, 12 family caregivers, 12 community health volunteers and 10 community nurses. The data were collected by using general information questionnaire, negative symptom assessment forms, focus group discussion and in-depth interview. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, paired t-test and content analysis.
The study results showed that, after support from families and community involvement schizophrenic patients had a lower mean score of negative symptoms, Mean = 17.50 and 6.33, respectively (p-value < 0.05).
