THE PERFORMANCE OF CARE GIVERS FOR THE DEPENDENT ELDERLY IN NAGO SUB-DISTRICT, KUCHINARAI DITRICT, KALASIN PROVINCE

This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to assess dependent elderly caregivers’ performance. The subject was 58 caregivers and 100 dependent elderly persons. The structured questionnaire was applied for data collection. The percentage, mean and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient were applied for statistics analyses. The results showed that most of caregivers were female (69.0 %) with average age 54.98 years old, and had dependent elderly persons in charge 1-5 person (82.8%). All of them provided care activities 2 time per week (100.0%). Approximately 65.5% of the caregivers had moderate level of caring knowledge in dependent elderly persons and about 67.2 % of them had moderate level of caring skill in dependent elderly persons. The dependent elderly persons had satisfied with caregiver services as high level 40.0%. Additional, the caregiver’s caring knowledge and skill was statistically significant with performance of care service (r=0.414, p=0.001; r=0.547, p=0.001respectively). This study pointed that caregiver's knowledge and skill were important to providing elderly health care. Therefore, relevant agencies should continuously provide training to revise the knowledge and skills for caregivers that will make them become more confident in their care service providing for the elderly.
