Abstract

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research two group pre-post test design was to study effects of Clinical Nursing Practice Guideline (CNPG) on the mobilization ability and flatulence for post-operative CCA patients. 38 patients who had undergone surgical treatment for cholangiocarcinoma and admitted to intensive care unit between July 2019 to January 2020, were recruited to the study. 19 individuals for each group. The experimental group received this CNPG which was established by 42 expert nurses. This group was instructed by using videos and mobilization guidelines twice a day. The control group received standard nursing care treatment. The instruments were the ICU mobility scale, flatulence assessment, in the first and before discharge. and the nurses’ satisfaction assessment. Data were statistically analyzed by using Fisher’s exact test and independent t-tests.

Results showed that the mobilization ability of the experimental group was higher than the mobilization ability of the control group with statistical significance at 0.05. The average score of flatulence and its severity within the experimental group was lower than the control group with statistical significance at 0.05. The level of nurses’ satisfaction of this CNPG were ranged as high to very high.

In conclusion, this CNPG could promote early mobilization and reduce flatulence, and should therefore be applied in the treatment of post-operative CCA patients in ICU.
