THE EFFECT OF FOOT CARE KNOWLEDGE AND SELF-FOOT MASSAGE PROGRAM TO THE PRESENCE OF FOOT COMPLICATIONS IN TYPE 2 DIABETIC PATIENTS IN TUMBON KAIKUM HEALTH PROMOTING HOSPITAL

The quasi-experimental one group pretest-posttest design aimed to investigated the results of foot care knowledge and self-foot massage program to the presence of foot complications in type 2 diabetic patients in Tumbon Kaikum Health Promoting Hospital. The sample size was included of 28 Noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients. The collecting data were performed with record form during October 2018 – March 2019 and analyzed by using descriptive and paired sample t-test.
The results showed that female was a major population 71.43%, aged between 45-59 years 75%, with marriage status 85.71%, primary school graduated 42.86% and working as a farmer 71.43%. Mostly of them were not smoking 92.86%, have diabetes mellitus disease for 5 years 64.29%, no foot ulcers 82.14%, cannot controlled blood sugar level (>130 mg/dl) 57.14%. After received the program, the patients showed a level of knowledge about foot care increased from 50.00% to 82.17%, the overall abnormal of foot condition in term of circulatory system, peripheral nervous system decreased from 71.41%, 71.41% and 67.86% to 57.14%, 57.14% and 46.53%, respectively. The average scores of the knowledge of foot care and overall foot conditions of diabetes mellitus patients were significantly increased.
