THE EFFECT OF PROMOTING ACTIVE AGING ON SELF-CARE BEHAVIOR AND QUALITY OF LIFE: A CASE STUDY OF BAN KU, YANG SI SURAT DISTRICT, MAHASARAKHAM PROVINCE

Abstract

This action research was aimed to evaluate a promotion of active ageing among elderly person in Ban Ku at Yang Si Surat District, Mahasarakham Province. The target group consisted of 126 elderly peoples and 14 associated persons. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaire, focus group discussion, and in-depth interview. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient.

The study results showed that the elderly had good self-care behaviors which were general self-care, self-care according to developmental stages and self-care when there was deviation, with mean values of 1.55, 1.49, and 1.49, respectively. The overall quality of life was at a moderate level and self-care behaviors were significantly correlated with quality of life.
