This qualitative study aimed to examine the current status, challenges, influencing factors, and guidelines for implementing the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system at the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. Participants included 6 executives, 20 heads of divisions or units, and 20 operational staff members, selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected through searching through documents, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and participant observation, and analyzed using inductive thematic analysis.
The findings indicated that the Faculty of Medicine has implemented ISO 9001:2015 across all operational processes. Key challenges included increased workload, limited understanding of ISO 9001:2015 requirements, and the coexistence of multiple clinical quality systems. Management-related factors (leadership commitment, support, and communication), followed by personnel and operational-related factors”
The proposed development guidelines comprised 11 sequential steps, ranging from establishing and communicating quality policy to achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification. To enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the quality management system, the establishment of an integrated information system is recommended to support centralized quality management and efficient use of shared organizational resources.
