Abstract

Based on a psychological theory, rationality is the creature of reasoning and human reasons come from his/her collective knowledge. A physician, as a person in a society, perceives and learns both material knowledge such as science, medicine; cultural knowledge such as norms, moral and then integrates into his/her reasons. Thus, there are various and different rationality of physicians. Based on sociological theories, differences in rationality might cause interpersonal and social conflicts. For example, in medical contexts, there are conflicts between physicians and patients or patients’ relatives in spite of two way communication setting. The social concept of ‘Communicative action' by Habermas is claimed to be a remarkable way of solutions for social conflicts. Understanding in the root of this concept, physicians can usefully and widely apply ‘Communicative action’ in medical setting
