การรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟันร่วมกับการผ่าตัดกระดูกทึบ ในผู้ป่วยฟันหน้าบนและล่างยื่น

ผู้ป่วยที่มีลักษณะฟันยื่นในขากรรไกรบนและล่างจะมีลักษณะริมฝีปากที่อูมนูน ซึ่งมักได้รับการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟันร่วมกับการถอนฟันกรามน้อยซี่ที่ 1 ทั้งสี่ซี่ เพื่อแก้ไขลักษณะฟันหน้ายื่น และใบหน้าที่อูมนูน แต่ในระหว่างที่มีการดึงฟันหน้า กระดูกเบ้าฟันจะเป็นเสมือนกำแพงที่ขัดขวาง การดึงฟันทำให้เกิดผลข้างเคียงที่ไม่พึงประสงค์ได้ จากการศึกษา พบว่า การผ่าตัดกระดูกทึบสามารถเพิ่มจำนวนเซลล์ในการสร้างกระดูกและลดความหนาแน่นของกระดูกได้ ดังนั้น เมื่อนำการผ่าตัดกระดูกทึบมาใช้ร่วมกับการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟัน จะสามารถลดข้อจำกัดในการดึงฟันหน้าในผู้ป่วยที่มีลักษณะฟันยื่นในขากรรไกรบนและล่างได้
