Abstract

Addiction treatment is a complex, multidimensional public health issue; consequently, the concepts of Precision and Personalized Medicine have gained significant importance. These approaches utilize genetic data and brain imaging to stratify patients and select treatment modalities that precisely target underlying pathologies. Examples include OPRM1 gene testing to predict medication response, or using MRI and PET scans to evaluate the brain's reward system. This facilitates the selection of psychosocial interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), that are tailored to the individual. Furthermore, Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a role in every stage of care, from screening, diagnosis, and risk prediction in vulnerable populations, to real-time monitoring of vital signs and behaviors via wearable devices, as well as big data analysis for public health policy formulation. Meanwhile, digital technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) simulate scenarios to reduce cravings, while Digital Therapeutics enhance treatment adherence and reduce dropout rates. However, despite the high potential of these technologies, it is crucial to prioritize safety standards and data privacy. Modern addiction treatment, therefore, aims to integrate biological data with digital technologies and AI to enhance treatment efficacy and ensure long-term sustainability.
