The Effectiveness of Educational Program based on SOS Score Guidelines for Assessing Patients with Sepsis on Knowledge and Skill using SOS Score Guidelines among Registered Nurses, Chaloem Phra Kiat Hospital, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

A quasi-experimental one-group pre-post-test repeated measure design was used to test the effectiveness of an educational program based on SOS score guidelines for assessing patients with sepsis, Chaloem Phra Kiat Hospital, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Purposive sampling was used to select 20 registered nurses (RNs) who worked at Chaloem Phra Kiat Hospital on inclusion criteria. The program consisted of knowledge and skills for assessing patients with sepsis based on SOS Score Guidelines. Total activities were used for two days about fourteen hours. Instruments and programs were validated by three experts. The reliability of the instruments was examined with thirty RNs as the same sample size consisted of 1) the knowledge questionnaire was examined with Kuder-Richardson (KR-20) equal to 0.81 and 2) the skill evaluation scale examined with interrater reliability equal to 0.80. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon Matched-pair Signed rank Test, and the Friedman test.
The findings revealed significant differences in the mean ranks of knowledge and skills of RNs who worked at Chaloem Phra Kiat Hospital to use SOS score guidelines among patients with sepsis after receiving the program on Day 3 and Day 14 (p < .01).
The results of this study to increase the knowledge and skills of RNs working in Chaloem Phra Kiat Hospital to use guidelines for assessing sepsis led to a good increase in assessment with sepsis patients.
