JMUH is dedicated to addressing diseases and health issues with the goal of improving the well-being of urban populations. Journal History
The Journal of Medicine and Urban Health (JMUH)—formerly known as Vajira Medical Journal (established in 1957) and later Vajira Medical Journal: Journal of Urban Medicine (since 2016)—has been in continuous publication for nearly 70 years. The founding editor, Passakorn Kasemsuwan, MD, together with 20 editorial board members, established a strong foundation for the journal. Consistently supported by the Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital, Navamindradhiraj University, JMUH has significantly contributed to advancing medical knowledge and practice.
Over the decades, the journal has enhanced the institution’s academic reputation by publishing high-quality scholarly works that support both professional recognition and academic career advancement for faculty members, within the institution and across the wider academic community.
Currently, JMUH is recognized as a national academic journal in science and technology by the Office of Higher Education Commission (OHEC) and is recommended as a platform for the publication of master’s and doctoral theses by universities in other fields. The journal is also indexed as a Tier 1 journal by the Thai Journal Citation Index Centre.
Peer Review Process
The complete peer review workflow is summarized in the diagram below, illustrating the sequence from submission to final editorial decision. See the diagram in the Guide for Authors. https://he05.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/jmuh/authors-guide
1. Primary Screening / Editorial Review
After submission, the Editor-in-Chief and the Journal Manager conduct an initial assessment of the manuscript’s originality, scientific soundness, and overall content to verify its alignment with the journal’s aims and scope. All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software, and a similarity index of less than 25% is required. Submissions exhibiting substantial issues in formatting, structure, or language may be returned to the authors for revision before being forwarded to the Section Editor.
2. Double-Blind Peer Review
JMUH follows a double-blind peer review process. The identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the review.
For original article or systematic review and meta-analysis, review article and case report, the Section Editor assigns at least 2 (typically 3) expert reviewers with relevant academic or clinical expertise to evaluate each manuscript. However, an invited special article may be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and an external reviewer. Reviewers from the authors’ own institutions are excluded to ensure independence, avoid potential conflicts of interest, and maintain unbiased evaluation throughout the review process. The peer review process typically takes 4-8 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript. Reviewers are selected based on subject-matter expertise, publication record, and the absence of conflicts of interest.
3. Review Outcomes
Reviewers provide comments and recommendations in one of the following categories:
- Accept
- Minor revision
- Major revision
- Reject
If reviewers provide conflicting recommendations, the Section Editor or Editor-in-Chief may solicit an additional reviewer or make an editorial decision based on scientific merit and journal standards.
4. Editorial Decision
The Section Editor and/or Editor-in-Chief evaluates reviewer comments, author revisions, scientific merit, ethical compliance, and overall suitability for the journal before issuing a final decision:
- Accept
- Minor revision
- Major revision (with additional review if needed)
- Reject
