The Effectiveness of Simulation on the Practice and Confidence in Referrals for Drug and Substance Use Disorder with Physical and Mental Health Issues by Nursing Personnel at Thanyarak Chiang Mai Hospital

This study is quasi-experimental study was conducted within the framework of routine work, developed into a research model. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of referrals in drug and substance use disorder with physical and mental health issues by nursing staff, Thanyarak chiangmai hospital. The subjects were purposively selected and consisted 25 registered nurses and 12 nurse assistants. Data collection tools included 1) A personal information questionnaire, practice skill assessment, confidence assessment, and satisfaction survey. 2) A referral manual. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Result of this study revealed that: Incharge nurse followed the manual 86.68%, performed correctly 82.50% and felt confidence 86.67%. Before referrals process, Referral nurse, followed the manual, performed correctly and felt confidence highest percentages were 87.50, 86.12, and 92.30, respectively. Nursing assistants, followed the manual in during referrals process highest percentages were 93.34, performed correctly in before referrals process highest percentages were 85.40 felt confidence in after referrals process highest percentages were 100 and overall satisfaction of the referral highest percentages were 79.28.Therefore, the manual and guidelines for referrals in drug and substance use disorder with physical and mental health should be implemented and evaluated in real situations to cover all service units of the hospital.
