Abstract

The treatment of childhood kidney cancer (Wilms’ tumor) is currently being extensively studied, and there are internationally standardized treatment protocols. Treatment requires a combination of methods, starting with surgical removal of the tumor and chemotherapy after surgery. If the disease has metastasized to nearby organs or has a high risk of invasion, radiation therapy may be added. However, this type of cancer responds very well to such treatments, with a cure rate of 80-90% in patients diagnosed in the early stages.

Objective: To provide safe and complication-free nursing care for pediatric patients undergoing general anesthesia for kidney cancer surgery.

Study Design: This is a case study analysis of one patient, conducted according to academic principles, and the results will be applied to nursing care for pediatric kidney cancer surgery patients using general anesthesia.

Results: The anesthesia nurse was well-prepared with necessary medications and specialized equipment, ensuring patient safety and preventing complications. No critical conditions such as blood loss, hypothermia, nerve compression, or endotracheal tube positioning were observed. The patient's general condition was stable, they were safe, recovered quickly, and received appropriate care. And they can return to their normal lives.

Summary: Nursing care for pediatric kidney cancer surgery patients receiving general anesthesia focuses on providing nurse anesthesiologists with guidelines for patient care to reduce the risk of life-threatening complications both during and after anesthesia. This includes pre-operative preparation, in-anesthesia care, and appropriate post-operative rehabilitation.
