Evaluation of the reporting system for Adverse Event Following Immunization in Thailand, 2014
Keywords:
evaluation, reporting and investigation of adverse events following immunization, reporting area coverage, timeliness and zero reportingAbstract
Bureau of Epidemiology conducted Evaluation on Adverse Events following Immunization Reporting (AEFI) of Public Health Provincial Offices including Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in order to give rewards to them. The report was done to describe activities to be assessed, evaluation criteria, result and suggestion to improve the reporting. The evaluation was done on reporting, investigation, coverage of reporting area, timeliness and zero reporting. Evaluation result showed that the highest total score was 100%, the lowest was zero, and median of total score was 28% . The majority of Public Health Provincial Offices illustrated the result as follow: number of reported cases was <10, case investigation was ≥ 80%, coverage of reporting area was <20% of criteria level, timeliness was 0% and no zero reporting. The result showed that public health officers lacked case detection in their hospitals and health services. The suggestion is hospitals and health services should review status of reporting, detect problems, establish system of case detection investigation and reporting by following national guideline of surveillance and investigation of adverse events following immunization, 2008 including continuous updating knowledge and guidance to staff. In case of Public Health Provincial Offices, Office of Disease Prevention and Control, and Bureau of Epidemiology should review status of surveillance and investigation of health services/offices in responsible areas/levels to detect problems and also actively strengthen and evaluate the system for further effective improvement.
