Abstract

Background: The Bureau of Occupational and Environmental Disease Control Department established a surveillance system for exposure of organophosphate and carbamate pesticides among farmers since 1992. This study was the first time to evaluate this surveillance system. It aimed to describe the procedure, and determine the coverage of the screening and completeness of the data.
Method: A cross-sectional study was performed by reviewing data from both pesticide exposure assessment forms (Nor Bor Kor-1-56 and OCC Nor-Bor-02), which were collected during 1 October 2015 to 30 September 2016. The personnel involved in the system were also interviewed.
Results: The screening covered 14.42% of the total farmers. About 40.79% of the provinces completed the data collection form. The system was mentioned to be useful and important.
Conclusions: However, the forms should be modified and simplified. Challenges were errors or incompletion of data and cooperation from the provinces in submitting the forms.
