Assessment of Thailand’s surveillance, investigation and control core capacities complies with International Health Regulations (IHR), 2005

The International Health Regulations (2005) came into force on 15thJune 2007. Thailand, being a member of the World Health Organization, required to develop the competencies related to surveillance, reports, investigations and containment. Thus, the Bureau of Epidemiology, Department of Disease Control Disease had developed training courses for Surveillance Rapid Response Team (SRRT) networks and eventbased surveillance system in districts. This qualitative study aimed to evaluate the competencies of regional and local SRRT levels. Assessments were done by reviewing documents related to development of competencies, and also by in-depth interviews and focus group discussion with managers and working officers. Results showed that competencies on surveillance, reports, investigations and containment at the regional and local levels was 83.3%, and the competency for infection control in hospitals in Thailand was 87.5%.
