Evaluation of Dengue Disease Surveillance in Nakhonpathom Province, 2013

Abstract

Dengue disease is one of the most important infectious diseases that implicate in public health problem in Thailand and Nakorn Pathom province. Although Ministry of Public Health has policy, strategies and protocols for control of the disease, the high incidence of dengue has been reported every year. Since high incidence of the disease in Nakorn Pathom province, the surveillance system was qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated to determine the precision of the surveillance system. The information may use for setting the efficient policy. Qualitative study was carried out by interview and observation of the surveillance process, while quantitative study was done by reviewing the medical history of that in patients that recruited in surveillance criteria. Nakhon Pathom had clear protocol for notification and reporting. The notification of dengue case must be done within 24 hours after diagnosis. The clinician used the clinical and basic laboratory to determine the dengue disease but there was few case who undergone Tourniquet’s test. The sensitivity of dengue case followed by the national surveillance definition was high (94.24%) and was closed to the clinician diagnosis (96.29%). By overall, the dengue surveillance of Nakhon Pathom was good. The system can be early detected and warning.
