Abstract

Background: At 03.00 pm on 4 th October 2011, Surveillance and Rapid Response Team (SRRT) has been notified by nurse of the mini-health center Salathamasop about the outbreak of Varicella zoster (4 patients) in a Day Care Nursery. SRRT has conducted an investigation during 4th-5th October 2011.
Objectives: Aim of this investigation to confirm the diagnosis and study epidemiology.
Results: Total of 53 Varicella zoster patients (21.12%) consisted of 29 males and 24 females aged 2-32 years, found the index case on 15th September 2011 and the last case on 5th October 2011. Most symptoms are fever with blister on trunk, face and head. The epidemic was propagated source and infected by contact with the mucus, saliva, and breathing. The outbreak cause from no quarantined and close contact with another students and teachers in group activities, eating, playing and sleep together. SRRT control and surveillance for 42 days after the date of the last case, No new patient was detected.
