Routine to Research (R2R) on Database of Dog and Cat Populations by Using along with Event-Based Surveillance of Surveillance and Rapid Response Team at Sub-district Level for Rabies Control Program in Loei, Thailand, 2014

Abstract

Routine to Research (R2 R) on database of dog and cat populations by using along with event-based surveillance of surveillance and rapid response team at sub-district level for rabies control program in Loei, 2014 was to develop a standardized survey of dog and cat populations. With a fruitful benefit of HOSxP/HOSxP PCU program, which was the software program applied for all health care units and connected at all levels in both of active and passive system, the program was appropriate to apply with a program of event-based surveillance at sub-district level to collect data from dog and cat population survey, and report any abnormal events on health and animal health aspects that might occur in communities. Mixture of educational methodologies including communities of practice, lesson learned and analytical thinking were applied to analyze a gap analysis of this R2R. Two strategies needed to be filled were 1) survey strategy and database management for dog and cat population transferred into operational plans and procedures and 2) expanding event-based surveillance of surveillance and rapid response team to cover all sub-district level by collaborating with Office of Disease Prevention and Control 6, KhonKaen province. An impact of this R2R was increasing of vaccine coverage in dog and cat populations and bring more effective rabies program for prevention and control in Loei province.
