การศึกษาอุปสรรคในการดำเนินงานให้ความรู้เรื่องการป้องกันโรคเอดส์ แก่สตรีขายบริการทางเพศ อำเภอสุไหงโก-ลก จังหวัดนราธิวาส

Abstract

The major goals of this qualitative research study wear to train female sex workers who were ted to be peer leaders to learn and have better understanding on STD/HIV/AIDS and prevention of transmission through consistent use of condoms. These peer leaders were expected to transfer these knowledge to their co-workers in the same workplace. Out of 91 of all types of sexual service establishment in Sungai Kolok district, Narathiwat province 45 places were randomly selected. From each place 2 women were selected to be peer leaders (altogether 90 women). Two training sessions were held during 13-14 July 1994 and 13-15 September 1994. It was evident that the inconsistent use of condom among sex workers was determined by various factors including economic, tourism, sexual values and risk behavior of male clients, language barriers which prevented the understanding and awareness on risk and prevention of HIV/AIDS. The failure of the implementation of "friend tells friends" approach (peer group) from peer leaders to their colleague to learn about AIDS also contributed to the low rates of condom use among female sex workers in this area.
