Diptheria outbreak in Samutsakhon 1998

Abstract

Diptheria is infectious disease that often occur and it is important cause of death in childhood. Now diptheria is find lesser because of the effectiveness of diptheria immunization programme . There was no case in Samutsakhon from 1989, but in 1998 two cases of diptheria, one death and two contacts were found.
Samutsakhon Provincial health Office and social medicine doctor in Provincial Hospital were processing in Moo 7, Tasai subdistrict, Amphoe Muang, to investigation, and throat swab culture the contacts health education, public relation, vaccinated diptheria vaccine in unvaccinated person, and giving antibiotic drugs to contacts to control the outbreak.
Furthermore we suggest that the process to rectify the problem by community survey, health education, public communication and vaccination in high risk community should be done.
The disease was control timely and rapidly, it calm down and no more case was found.
