Abstract

Hypersensitivity reactions to iodinated contrast media have shown an escalating incidence, according to the widespread use of contrast-enhanced diagnostic Computerized Tomography (CT) scan. Most occur immediately and cannot be predicted. In this report, a Thai female patient with breast cancer required a diagnostic examination with a CT scan and had a history of allergy to various types of non-ionic contrast media, both lowosmolality and iso-osmolality (iopromide, iobitridol, and iodixanol). This time, after exposure to the contrast media (iomeprol) for approximately 30 minutes, mild reactions such as conjunctiva edema and pruritic rash occurred despite receiving premedication with prednisolone and diphenhydramine to prevent allergic reactions. Therefore, careful monitoring of adverse reactions to contrast media is important, especially for patients with a history of allergy to contrast media.
