Factors Related with Hand Foot Mouth Disease Prevention Behavior of Parents of Children in The Child Development Center, Bang Khan District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Abstract

     This cross-sectional survey research aimed to study the personal factors, perceptions of  Hand Foot Mouth Disease HFMD, and preventive behaviors. Also, to identify the factors associated with HFMD prevention behaviors among parents of children in child development centers in Bang Khan District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The sample size was 256 participants. The data was collectd by a structured questionnaire, with a reliability of 0.81. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data, with statistical significance set at the 0.05 level.
     The result shown that the majority of participants were female, aged between 30–39 years old, and married. Most of them had completed secondary school or vocational education, agriculture occupation, income between 5,000–9,999 baht per month, and they were the parents of the children. Overall perception of HFMD was at a high level (93.75%). The subdomains of perception was at a high level including perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits of prevention and perceived barriers to prevent HFMD with 91.80%, 85.55%, 94.53%, and 73.05%, respectively. Also, The HFMD prevention behavior was a high level (95.70%). The factors that statistic significant related to HFMD prevention behaviors at the 0.05 level were the overall perception of disease, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits of prevention, and perceived barriers to prevent HFMD (r = 0.515, 0.425, 0.334, 0.541, and 0.384, respectively). The findings can be used as a guideline for policy development and implementation to prevent and control HFMD in the children.
