Pulmonary Tuberculosis Surveillance Evaluation at Ratchaburi Hospital, Ratchaburi Province, Thailand, Fiscal year 2013

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an important public health problem around the world including Thailand. The result of rapid assessment of pulmonary TB from Ratchaburi Hospital was different in diagnosis program (HosXP-700 cases) and TB clinic program (TBCM 2010-315 cases). The significant different was leading to conduct the surveillance evaluation of pulmonary TB at the Ratchaburi Hospital. The aims were to describe the qualitative and quantitative attributes in the surveillance of pulmonary TB. The inclusion criteria was met a definition of pulmonary TB and aged over 15 years old during 1 October 2012 to 30 September 2013. Totally 447 pulmonary TB cases identified, the sensitivity was 75.27% and predictive positive value was 75.27%. The representative data of male : female was slightly similar (2.56:1 in the program vs 2.26:1 in the reviewed medical record). Name, gender and address variables were completely correct. The timeliness of the reporting case was high as 82.69%. Overall, the sensitivity was fair and predictive value positive was good when comparing to the result of surveillance evaluation of pulmonary TB at Kampheangphet Hospital in 2010. The acceptability and usefulness among the staffs at all level was good but it needs to improve the flexibility and simplicity.
