An investigation of injury and death: a case of overturn car on the Highway km.196, Watthananakorn District, Srakaew Province, Thailand, 13-15 June 2016

Abstract

On 8 June 2016, the Office of Disease Prevention and Control Region 6, Chonburi received a notification from Srakeaw Provincial Public Health Office about road traffic injuries. Disease Prevention and Control Region 6, Chonburi team went down into the area of injury from road traffic in conjunction with the Srakaew Health Province, The office of disaster prevention and mitigation offense, Srakaew Provincial Police Station, The office of road and transit division, Bureau of Transportation offense, Watthana nakhon hospital and Aranyaprathet hospital to join investigate the injury from traffic accident on June 13-15, 2016. An investigation was showed that a pickup truck carrying Cambodian migrant workers crashed into a high-voltage pole, resulted twenty-seven injuries (82%) and six deaths (18%). Passengers, who were in the pickup, and policemen involved in the event were interviewed. The findings showed that driving with high-speed, drinking alcohol, overloading of passengers, flooding in drainage ditches and poor lighting on the road were related to the incident. Factors related to the road traffic injury cause all passengers were not wearing the seatbelt. Improving the road conditions and transportation of foreign workers were recommended. Permanent checkpoints should be set up to inspect the driving speed and vehicle safety.
