  • Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection is a major cause of lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs), including bronchiolitis and pneumonia, particularly among children younger than 2 years, older adults, and individuals with underlying medical conditions. The number of cases typically increases during the rainy season and continues into the early winter, with the peak period generally occurring from July to November each year.
  • In Thailand, as of 15 August 2026, a cumulative total of 5,683 RSV cases was reported, corresponding to an incidence rate of 8.63 cases per 100,000 population, with no deaths reported. The highest incidence rate was observed among children aged 0–4 years (171.59 cases per 100,000 population), followed by those aged 5–9 years (14.87) and adults aged ≥60 years (2.32). Of the reported cases, 39.86% required hospitalization. The number of RSV cases is currently increasing as Thailand enters its seasonal period of high RSV activity. Based on the seasonal pattern observed in the previous year, case numbers are expected to continue increasing during September–October 2026.
  • Public health authorities and relevant agencies should strengthen surveillance, early warning, and risk communication systems to ensure timely monitoring of the situation and adequate preparedness for the RSV epidemic. Meanwhile, the public should avoid close contact with individuals experiencing respiratory symptoms, maintain good personal hygiene, wear face masks when appropriate, and strictly adhere to preventive measures and recommendations issued by public health authorities.
