Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection is a major global public health problem that leads to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Treatment with the Sofosbuvir/Velpatasvir regimen helps reduce the risk of cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma and mortality rates. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness and safety of the Sofosbuvir/Velpatasvir regimen in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection in Sakon Nakhon Hospital. This study was retrospective cohort study involving 199 patients with chronic hepatitis C from January 2023 to April 2025. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Treatment effectiveness was assessed based on sustained virological response (SVR) at 12 weeks after treatment.
The sample consisted of 199 patients, divided into 78 patients in the group none receiving Ribavirin and 121 patients in the group receiving Ribavirin. The majority were male (55.3%) with a mean age of 57.3 ± 11.19 years. A total of 197 patients (99.0%) achieved a cure. Among patients with cirrhosis, the cure rate was not significantly different from those without cirrhosis, with SVR rates of 100.00% and 97.4%, respectively (p-value = 0.15). Some patients experienced mild adverse events such as anemia, and fatigue. All treated patients completed the medication course without severe side effects.
Conclusion: The Sofosbuvir/Velpatasvir regimen is highly effective and safe for treating chronic hepatitis C patients, both with and without cirrhosis.
