Abstract

This quasi-experimental research (One group pretest-posttest design) aimed to study  the effectiveness of a patient triage program based on the five-level MOPH ED Triage system. The study specifically examined the impact on patient classification, compared the accuracy of patient triage before and after program implementation, and assessed professional nurses satisfaction with the MOPH ED Triage Guidelines at the Emergency and Forensic Department of Muang Pan Hospital, Lampang Province. The target population consisted of 11 professional nurses working in the Emergency and the tool is Emergency patient triage guideline program using MOPH ED Triage Guideline, Forensic Department. Data collection instruments included the personal characteristics data collection form, MOPH ED TRIAGE guidelines established by the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health emergency level triage outcome recording form and a nurse satisfaction assessment questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and  chi-square test. The results showed an increase in correct patient severity classification from 89.10 % to 94.80%, while incorrect classifications decreased from 10.90% to 5.20%. Over-triage rates decreased from 8.0% to 3.60%, and under-triage rates decreased from 2.90% to 1.60%. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences at the .05 level (χ2=8.962, df=1, p=0.011). Professional nurses reported the highest level of satisfaction with the MOPH ED TRIAGE program implementation (x̄=4.82, S.D=0.45).The study concludes that the MOPH ED Triage program can be effectively implemented for emergency patient classification, resulting in more efficient care delivery for patients in critical and emergency conditions.
