DEVELOPMENT OF AN OPERATING MODELS OF VILLAGE HEALTH VOLUNTEERS IN THE SURVEILLANCE, PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019 SAMUTPRAKAN PROVINCE

Abstract

The purpose of this action research was to study problem, model develop and evaluatea comprehensive model to enhance the competencies of Village Health Volunteers (VHVs)in effectively implementing surveillance, prevention, and control measures for coronavirusdisease 2019 in Samut Prakan Province. The sample included 12 medical and public healthpersonnel, 12 village health volunteer presidents, and 399 village health volunteers, selectedby simple sampling random. Data were collected using various research instruments, such asinterview forms, questionnaires with IOC.= 0.89-1.00, r=0.88., satisfaction assessment forms,and group discussion guidelines. Statistical methods like mean, standard deviation, comparisonof t-values, and content analysis were employed for data analysis.The fi ndings revealed crucial insights into, problem were to the challenges VHVs facedin executing surveillance, prevention, and control measures. They exhibited defi ciencies inknowledge and skills, and the management system posed obstacles, particularly in industrialfactories, slum areas, and foreign workers. Information dissemination led to panic, indicatinga lack of awareness and compliance with protocols. Additionally, VHVs expressed concernsabout insuffi cient support from other agencies in the area. The model proposed strategicinterventions, including the establishment of a district management system, VHVs' potentialdevelopment training, and the creation of communication networks with partners. Furthermore,results showed a statistically signifi cant improvement in VHVs' knowledge and behaviorregarding coronavirus disease 2019 (P<0.05) at the district level. VHVs expressed high satisfactionwith the proposed surveillance, prevention, and control model.Based on these fi ndings, we strongly recommend public health agencies adopt theoperational model for Volunteers in Surveillance, Prevention, and Control of CoronavirusDisease 2019 for effective implementation in the designated region.
